My Grandfather’s Original Log Book.  I began MY flight training in 1997, about 2 months after he passed away.

It appears his original training was in a Travel Air in 1929, only about 70 years before me!  Amazingly, I located this 1936 photo of the plane he flew, Travel Air NC-9048 from a Travel Air Restorers Association Newsletter. (used with permission)

Notice the notation “Flew for Lic.” at about 22 hours!

Here are some flights logged in 1931 in Southern California in a Monocoupe. I have found no record of an Ellery Airport, so let me know if you know where that might have been.  There are other references (on other pages) to Vail Airport in Los Angeles.
